I love Hwy 1, which runs along the California, especially the portion of road between Carmel by the Sea and San Luis Obispo. Along this stretch of road you’ll find famous places such as Big Sur, San Simeon (with Hearst Castle) and Morrow Bay. IN fact, this stretch of road is so picturesque that many car ads are shot there. If you ever see a US car ad of a vehicle driving along a coastal road, chances are it was filmed here.

The pier here is the San Simeon Pier which lies pretty much directly opposite the entrance to Hearst Castle. There is a family picnic area and a beach called William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach.

I passed through here on my way to San Luis Obispo and could not help but notice the sunset bathing the coast in this beautiful peach-colored light. Figuring the pier would make for some interesting contrast against the sky, I took several shots with different composition. I liked this one the best.
