Sydney Skyline

An old favorite, the Sydney Skyline, taken from Nielson Park / Vaucluse area.

Sydney is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cities in the world and always offers a spectacular view.

I really liked how all the colors blend together in this shot. The long exposure turned the sky somewhat brownish due to the city lights reflecting against the cloud cover. The building are also all in a brownish tone. The darker blue at the top mirrors the dark blue of the water in the foreground, all in all a shot I am quite happy with.

Taking long exposures with digital cameras is always interesting as the light has an accumulative effect on the camera’s sensor. This scene was quite dark to the eye, but the long exposure allows the glow to get stronger and stronger.

If you look closer, you can see St. Mary’s Cathedral right in the middle of the city, bathed in lights and somewhat of a contrast against all the modern steel and glass buildings surrounding it.
